Challenge Update

DSC_0664

Hi team,

It’s been about 4 months since I set myself the challenge of not purchasing any new craft products and using up what I already have. Here is a reminder of the rules I set for myself:

1. Do not purchase any new craft items between now and 31 Dec 2015

2. Continue to craft using existing craft supplies

3. If someone else purchases craft supplies for me as a present I can use those.

4. If someone gives me a gift certificate, I can spend the certificate.

So I’ve failed a little bit…..the photos in this post are my ‘confession’ :P.

I joined a few Facebook card-making groups and some of the creators on there are absolutely amazing! The feather die and the feather stamp set I purchased thanks to the Facebook groups. They were actually free gifts with a card making magazine, and so many people in the Facebook group had used them to create these amazing projects, I felt I just has to get them.

The pile of clasps and findings was a bargain that was too good to pass up. My local craft store had a sale on their old stock. 10 packs for $1. Seriously…..it was such a good deal!

Lastly…..I ran out of adhesive for my cards! I thought about using foam tape instead (which I still have 2 rolls of), but then I decided to just suck it up and make the purchase. It was something I really needed after all!

Otherwise I’m pretty happy with how I’m going. I feel like I’m using up quite a lot of my stuff (and making some nice looking craft items). Plus I’ve become more creative with using what I already have, rather than rushing out to buy even more stuff.

I hope you get inspired to use up your own stash!

Challenge Accepted!

Hi team,

No crafty item to show, just wanted to have a chat/rant about something that I’m very guilty of, and I suspect lots of other people are too (I hope……I can’t be the only one)!!

I’m a craft hoarder! It’s nuts……I generally only buy things when they’re on sale, then I put them away with the best intentions of using them, but I never do. I find I have the mentality of “I’m saving that for a special occasion” or “I’ll use [insert item here] once I finish using [insert other item here]” Then I never use up the first item!!!

Then I have to purchase additional storage containers to store all the extra things I’ve bought…….Those containers are taking over my room. Before I had my baby it wasn’t so noticable, her bedroom was my study/craft room and the containers didn’t bother me so much. Since we had to clear out everything from her room, all my boxes are now in my bedroom, and it’s bothering me. A lot.

I’ve decided to set myself a challenge – to continue crafting for the rest of the year, but to only use items I currently own and not to purchase anything new. I’m hoping that I can free up a little bit of space in my bedroom again, and get rid of some of my containers.

I have given myself a few caveats (that’s the joy of making your own rules right)?! If someone buys me craft supplies, I can use those (it would be rude not to right?), and if I get given a gift certificate for a craft store I can spend that (some of the certificates only have a 6 month expiry and I don’t want to waste money).

To recap – here are the rules:

1. Do not purchase any new craft items between now and 31 Dec 2015

2. Continue to craft using existing craft supplies

3. If someone else purchases craft supplies for me as a present I can use those.

4. If someone gives me a gift certificate, I can spend the certificate.

I’m kinda looking forward to the challenge of seeing what I can make with the supplies I already have – I’m also looking forward to seeing the bottom of a few of my boxes/containers!

I hope this post inspires you other crafty hoarders out there (I know some of you must be, I can’t be the only one)!!

Have a crafty week!!

Crafty Haul – Stitches & Craft Show

wpid-wp-1411955017042.jpeg

Hi team,

No crafts this week but I thought I’d show you some of the neat stuff I bought at the recent stitches & craft show in Sydney.

I feel like I was pretty restrained this time – I took a shopping list and stuck to it (more or less) πŸ™‚

I was after some more Copic markers, sentiment stamps, a Wink of Stella glitter pen, and some refills for my hot glue gun.

I did also get some new Sizzix dies though – I’m really looking forward to playing around with the hexagonal triplets!

The paper packs…..well I’m always a sucker for pretty paper, plus they were on clearance. I can’t be the only one who buys things but justifies it by thinking about how much money I saved……right?!

Quick Update….

Hi everyone,

I’ll have a regular crafty post for you tomorrow, but thought I’d quickly share 2 things.

1. I have set up a Facebook pageΒ and I’d love it if you could stop by and click Like if you’re on Facebook and fancy getting updates from me through there.

2. I have finally decided to set up an Etsy store to sell some of the things I make. If you see anything you like please let me know. I’m also always happy to create custom orders. πŸ™‚

See you tomorrow!!
